The 2016 UEFA European Championship will play host to #streetfootballworld Festival 16
The 2016 UEFA European Championship will have all the hallmarks of an international football tournament: superstar players, huge crowds and a vibrant atmosphere. But it will also have something different. Something special. For the first time in the history of the competition, the 2016 Euros will play host to a festival celebrating the power of football to change the lives of young people: #streetfootballworld Festival 16.
#streetfootballworld Festival 16 will bring together 500 girls & boys from disadvantaged communities from all over the world, chosen not for their skills on the pitch but rather their commitment to changing the world through football. At the core of the event is an exciting football3 tournament – a unique way of playing the game that incorporates key life lessons into every match. Educational workshops and cultural workshops will also feature prominently, enabling the young participants to develop new skillsets and apply them in their local communities.
The festival will take place in the heart of Lyon, at the Sport dans la Ville Campus: 5 Quai de la Gare d’Eau, 69009 Lyon, France, over ten days and will be jointly organised bv Sport dans la Ville and #streetfootballworld. The festival’s tournament – held on July 5th & July 6th – and is open to public attendance.
